Coronation Street saw heart-wrenching drama centred on two of its characters in Wednesday night's episode (April 26). The harrowing scenes saw Amy Barlow and Paul Foreman at the hospital for different reasons, but both were left facing-up to trauma and confronting their fears.
Amy, played by Elle Mulvaney, ended up hospitalised in the ITV soap after downing a bottle of vodka after being raped by her best friend's ex Aaron Sandford. After attempting to bury the truth, Amy was praised for her bravery as she finally admitted to her parents Tracy and Steve: "I was lying, he did rape me. I'm stuggling. I know I need help."
There was a jarring moment as the doctor arrived and asked rather insensitively: "Going to be teetotal from now on then?. And just as we thought that was an unwelcome enough interruption, Aaron knocked on to check how Amy was.

Sadly, Amy had to be the adult in the situation again after Steve looked set to knock Aaron out, and her parents eventually agreed to give them time to talk alone. "I came to say sorry," he told her. "For raping me?" she asked. "Not a very nice word is it?" she challenged. "Can't bring yourself to say it but have no problem doing it."
Meanwhile, Paul's world shattered as he was told he has limb-onset Motor Neurone Disease, and he wanted to know how long he has left to live. "Some people die within three years, others live longer. The more we assess you the more information we'll have on your specific case," he was told.
But Paul deflected his heartache by switching his focus to how long left he and his friend Dee-Dee Bailey had left on the car park. He stormed out and the tears finally started flowing, triggered by his anger over bad parking.
Later he told Dee-Dee about his ordeal as a child. "I was abused as a kid by my mam's boyfriend," he confided. "You'd think for once In my life I'd be able to catch a breal. God's got other plans for me. If it was cancer at least I'd have a chance."
Back on Coronation Street, Aaron had a mirror held up him by Abi Webster who could have almost have been talking about him as she gazed at baby monitor footage of her sleeping baby son who was keeping her awake at night. "The innocent smile. You're kidding no-one," she said.
