Coronation Street fans warned of huge ITV schedule shake-up this week

Beloved UK soap opera Coronation Street is set to air at different times than normal this week, in an ITV schedule shake-up.

The ITV soap has had some gripping storylines as of late, leaving viewers waiting eagerly for the next instalment - including Kelly Neelan's exit and a gun showdown between kidnapper Kieron, Gary Windass and Aadi Alaham. Then there's also Stephen Reid's brutal murder of Leo Thompkins.

And while all sorts of drama is unfolding on TV screens across the nation, viewers may have to wait slightly longer than usual to catch the next episode.

The Mirror reports that fans tuning in for Friday's show will be left especially disappointed - with Corrie not airing at all towards the end of the week. The schedule change comes due to the international women's football, which will be broadcast Friday night instead.

Although Coronation Street fans are usually treated to three episodes per week - on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday respectively - the soap is set to air differently this week. Although tonight's episode will air as usual, the second episode will be moved from Wednesday to Tuesday.

Friday's instalment will also be airing at 8pm on Wednesday - with no soap drama coming from the Rovers Return Inn as the weekend begins.

The news follows on after Corrie boss Iain MacLeod teased more drama ahead for Todd Boyce's character, Stephen.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, he said: "He will continue to get more and more desperate and more and more dark as the story unfolds. The beauty of his character really is that he's got this huge longevity in terms of his connection to the show and to a heritage family, but actually he is a bit of a blank canvas.

"If you think back through his archive scenes, we don't really know a lot about him. So we thought well, actually, if we're gonna fill in those blanks and we're gonna learn more about him shouldn't we make him dark, dangerous, interesting and scheming?"

Elsewhere, Iain vowed that Stephen won't cause any physical harm to Audrey, despite his killer past.

"Audrey obviously will be a large part of the story. She won't come to be in any physical Jeopardy, I should say. But emotionally, the stakes are incredibly high, because she's put all of her sort of maternal eggs in Stephens basket," he added.

*Coronation Street will air Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 8pm on ITV this week.
