Poor Roy Cropper was confused during Wednesday's trip to the cobbles when he sent an emoji on his new smartphone for the first time.
Despite being wholly against the devices, Roy decided to go against his principles and buy a phone after New Year's events saw his niece Nina plunged into a life-threatening situation.
It came after Roy went missing in the woods, and Nina, along with Asha and Brian, tried to find him.

After Nina was left in hospital, Roy realised it was probably best he had a mobile phone so any such situations could be avoided in future.
On Wednesday, a bewildered looking Roy told Carla Connor and Peter Barlow he thought he had "inadvertently confused my niece". When Carla asked what he meant, Roy explained he had asked Nina to get some aubergines while out shopping.
Roy said: "She's at the cash and carry, you see. In order to be more efficient, I've used what I believe is called an emoji", before showing his phone to Carla and Peter, who quickly burst into laughter.
Carla said: "Roy, you can't send aubergine emojis to your niece" and when Roy didn't understand why, Carla whispered an explanation into his ear. An appalled Roy replied: "I still don't understand, that's simply a vegetable".
Corrie fans were clearly loving the interaction. Taking to Twitter, Kat said: "Not Carla having to explain to Roy what the aubergine means", while Thomas said: "Roy sending an aubergine to Nina, sweet home Alabama".
Tenna said: "Oh Roy, step away from the phone". BEn said: "Roy and his emojis. It's too much".
