Coronation Street fans were wondering if they had blinked and missed a rather important event on the soap on Wednesday night. Last week viewers watched in disgust as Rick Neelan's funeral was gatecrashed and his coffin spat on.
The former loan shark was laid to rest by his daughter Kelly Neelan in the ITV soap after his body was discovered in the site of the new Weatherfield County training ground - three years after Gary Windass killed him in self defence after he threatened his then-girlfriend Sarah Platt and their families.
Before Rick's body was found, Gary confessed what he did to a then-dying Laura Neelan and after initially thinking of going to the police in order for Kelly to get inheritance when she died, the mum had a change of heart and she took to rap herself and was charged with murder to ensure her daughter could stay with guardians Gary and his wife Maria.
Kelly was unable to forgive her mum before her death and left it too late to see her before she passed in tear-jerking scenes aired earlier this month. But the discovery of Rick's body and Laura's death meant that Kelly tragically had to bury both her parents with George Shuttleworth aiding the arrangements.
As mentioned, Rick's funeral was aired on-screen during last Friday's episode (April 15) with Laura's funeral to follow on Wednesday night. However, all viewers saw was Kelly return home with Gary who then asked her about banking the bag of cash he found at Rick's house.
While Kelly quickly brushed off his suggestion after she was seen heading off with the holdall of £20 notes during Monday's episode, Corrie viewers were questioning where Laura's funeral was.
@corriepodcast asked: "Did I blink and miss Laura's funeral? #corrie."
"I know! One minute George is talking about it next minute Gary and Kelly are walking into the flat. Could have given her a proper send off.." @heatherjancos replied.
And the comments continued when Kel Allen, who played Laura, shared a final tribute to her character. Sharing a photo of her final scenes on the ITV soap in hospital, the actress shared on Twitter and Instagram: "RIP Laura Neelan 26.10.1981- 8.4.22," before crying: "I miss her already."
In response, @hughesjg commented: "They might've given her an on-screen funeral! Congratulations on your final episodes, your performance was gorgeous. So very moving."
@gorml said: "I wanted to cry at Laura's funeral we didn't get to #RipLaura."
"They could have given you a proper funeral, Rick got a better one and he been dead for 3 years," @elaine_winrow_20 fumed.
@KellyBlackx added: "Didn’t even give you an onscreen funeral," alongside a string of angry face emojis.
But fans were also quick to share Kel's feeling's in missing Laura, including co-star Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Battersby, who said: "We miss you, bab."
@allforcorrie shared: "I miss her so so much. You’re a brilliant actress and I really wish you luck for everything in the future."
"I hated her at first but absolutely loved her at the end you did an amazing job bringing her to life. Best of luck with all your future projects you're fabulous," @michael_anthony_barron shared.
