Coronation Street fans confused as Stu's DNA results are confirmed

Fans of Coronation Street were baffled as Stu's DNA results came back tonight.

Stu had previously been in prison for the murder of a young waitress he had been having an affair with. Yasmeen was hit with the news from Stu's ex-wife Lucy after Stu had tried to make contact with his daughter, Bridget.

Stu has maintained his innocence, with Yasmeen's granddaughter Alya digging into his case to seek out the truth, with her requesting a DNA test from Dee-Dee. Meanwhile, Stu had been busy building a relationship with his estranged daughter, Bridget, and his granddaughter, Eliza.

Bridget and Eliza enjoyed a brunch with Yasmeen and Stu, but a question from Eliza about her granddad's time behind bars proved too much for Bridget, and she ran out into the garden. Stu followed her to comfort her, letting her know how angry he was at being jailed for something he didn't do – but he was left reeling by Bridget's shocking revelation.

She told him that it was actually her who killed the waitress. Tonight's episode saw the dad and daughter having a heart to heart as he told her he still wanted her in his life despite him taking the fall for her crime.

Meanwhile, Dee-Dee, popped into Speed Daal to tell Alya the DNA results were finally in, leaving her shell-shocked. Dee-Dee explained: "There was additional DNA on the bag."

Alya exclaimed: "I knew it!" She added: "Did it match Lucy's?" Dee-Dee explained that it was a partial match.

She said: "It was a 50% match to Lucy and 50% match to Stu.... It means whoever handled the bag was related to both of them." Alya put two and two together as she said: "Their daughter."

But fans on Twitter were baffled by the results. One user said: "Trying to work out how those DNA results work out. Surely that would mean Lucy's and Stu's DNA were on the body? Not the mix & match of Bridget's? Didn't they just DNA Lucy's mug? #Corrie"

Another user said: "Is that really how DNA matches read? #corrie". Meanwhile, a third said: "#Corrie I don't think forensic DNA matching works like that!"
