Coronation Street death confirmed as Gail Platt faces fresh heartache

Coronation Street airs heartache for the Platts next week, as Gail Platt learns of a devastating death.

The upset character takes a brief break from the Cobbles in the fallout, after learning the sad news.

Gail is informed that her father Ted Page, played by actor Michael Byrne, has died.

She's told the heartbreaking news by his partner Andrew, and her face falls the moment she learns of the death.

Later, Gail confides in her eldest son Nick and tells him his grandfather has passed away.

She reveals she has agreed to visit Andrew in London, where the couple lived, to help with the funeral arrangements.

Ted was last seen on on the ITV soap in 2010, around 11 years ago.

He joined in 2008 as the absent father of Gail, having not been aware that she existed.

Ted and Audrey were a former couple, but when she split with him she didn't realise she was pregnant.

When Ted arrived he had recently lost his partner James, and decided to stick around to get to know the family.

He even became pals with street legend Ken Barlow, who will no doubt be sad to hear he has passed away.

After his departure in 2010, he stay in regular contact with Gail offscreen - even calling her when she was accused of murdering her husband Joe McIntyre.
