Coronation Street aired a surprised cameo last night - as a character returned from the dead.
Yasmeen Nazir, played by Shelley King, has been having a crisis recently after finding out her new partner Stu Carpenter (Bill Fellows) was convicted of the murder of a young girl many years ago. He has always maintained his innocence and claimed he was coerced into a confession, something which his new family have been trying to support him with.
She has been struggling with how best to support Stu, initially left reeling by his ex-wife's shock news that he had allegedly murdered something. However, she has since come around to supporting him as Alya and Zeedan try and clear his name.
However, as she mulled over the decision, she was visited by another character from the ITV soap, someone who she had a close connection with as she fretted over what had been happening with Stu.
As she fell asleep, she had a nightmare which began almost innocently, seeing Stu in the kitchen preparing chicken. However, he started to approach her menacingly and transformed into her evil ex Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew).
"You stupid woman. He's a murderer, he's been sat right under your nose all this time," he said to her.
Before adding: "And the award for most gullible old fool goes to... Yasmeen Metcalfe!"
It was then that Yasmeen woke up in a shock, before making her decision to allow Stu to live with them in her home, despite uproar from the rest of the residents. They are still convinced he did commit the murder, whilst the Nazirs are sure he's innocent.
Geoff exited the ITV soap in December 2020 when his character fell off the roof of a building and died.
For years, he had tormented his wife Yasmeen and manipulated her into doing anything he wanted. He belittled her, and even got involved in the family restaurant, Speed Daal, as he didn't want her to have control.
Losing her cool, she stabbed Geoff with a wine bottle but he recovered. She, however, was charged but later cleared of attempted murder. As they confronted one another in a later date, Geoff fell off the roof of a house on the Cobbles and died.
