Coronation Street and Emmerdale actress rushed to hospital after horror fall

Coronation Street icon Denise Black has been rushed to hospital after breaking both her arm and foot following a horror fall.

The 65-year-old actress - known to millions for playing Ken Barlow’s lover Denise Osbourne on the ITV soap - needed emergency medical attention following the agonising incident.

Despite her painful injuries, Denise appeared to be upbeat and made light of her own accident-prone tendencies as she explained exactly how she hurt herself.

As well as falling, the star further injured herself by dropping a heavy object on her foot - which broke some bones on impact.

Taking to social media, the star explained: “Now I’m mending I can tell you. I broke my wonky arm.

"As I fell I dropped what I was carrying which broke my foot. Know Hoffnung’s Bricklayers joke? Google it. I am that joke.”

She went on to thank NHS staff for taking care of her and helping get her patched up.

Denise played Denise Osbourne on Coronation Street from 1993 until 2017 (ITV)

Denise wrote: "Humungous shout out to doctors and nurses far and wide, very especially our beloved NHS.

"You make humans seem like GOOD people. Great news is I’m still filming. Even better news is I’m mending.

"Sure, I may be wonkier than before, but in truth, aren’t all the best people? Inside and out #embraceyourwonkiness #thankyounhs."

Concerned fans were quick to express their concern for the star - and to express how impressed they were with Denise’s upbeat update - with one commenting: “And you’re still smiling. What a trouper. Wishing you a speedy recovery.”

She also played Joanie Dingle on Emmerdale from 2013 until 2017 (Andrew Boyce)

Another said: “Oh no! Wishing you a miraculous speedy recovery.”

While a further fan added: “Oh Denise! You are a calamity. Bless you. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Lots of love.”

Back in 2020, Denise explained to fans that she had been receiving treatment from the NHS as she had hip replacement surgery.

Writing about her experience in a blog post on her website at the time, she wrote: “You might notice a discrete walking stick in that pic outside TV Centre in my last post? Well news is, it's GONE!

“Two new hips and I'm officially bionic. I've thrown my stick away and it's like being a kid again. I'd thought I'd celebrate with a new look. What do you reckon?

“Can I just say a big thank you and hats off to our mighty NHS, you people are just the tops. I can't thank you enough. Thinking of you all with this awful flu scare going on. I know I'm a restless patient (is that an oxymoron?) but you guys make pain bearable.”

Denise featured on Coronation Street from 1992 until 2017 and is known for a range of roles in the years around her time on the long-running soap.

She had a main role on groundbreaking Channel 4 TV series Queer As Folk, a notable guest role on hilarious comedy series Benidorm, and also played Joanie Dingle on ITV soap Emmerdale.
