Claire Sweeney makes her debut as Cassie, Tyrone's mother, on Coronation Street tonight - but fans can't believe their age gap.
The Brookside legend is joining the ITV soap in scenes set to air this evening, where Cassie comes face to face with her mum Evelyn Plummer. Cassie will make her arrival on the street, but Evelyn chooses to ignore her.
That all changes though, when she receives a call that her daughter has been admitted to hospital in an emergency. She is torn, as she had told Tyrone that Cassie is dead but with her seemingly back in her life, what will it mean for them all going forward?
Viewers have been left stunned to learn about the age gap between Claire Sweeney and Alan Halsall, who play mother and son. Alan is 40-years-old whilst Claire is only 52, meaning they are just 12 years apart.
We are yet to find out when Cassie gave birth to Tyrone but fans have been left reeling by the small age gap between them.
Claire admitted she felt nervous about making her debut on the ITV soap.
Speaking to The Mirror and other press, she said: "I've done a little bit of acting [in TV recently], not massive parts, but wanting to get back and do some really great acting. I never dreamed Corrie would be the thing. Just that Iain has given me a chance and it just takes that one person to believe in you and go give her a chance. I'm so grateful."
Claire also confessed that being on a show like Coronation Street gives her the stability she wants for her family.
"I'm a single mum as well to eight year old son Jackson. My decisions are not only based on the love of what I do, they are based on stability for me and my son. I'm 52 years of age now and for this, not only is it the best soap for me, working with Maureen and Alan and all these wonderful people to have the stability of a job, I don’t know how long it'll last," she added.
Whatever happens, there is no doubt that Cassie will cause chaos when the truth about her arrival is revealed to Tyrone. He was told that his mother is dead, so when everything comes out, the news will no doubt shock him to his core.
