Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has revealed a "sinister" twist about newcomers Mike and Esther, amid the ongoing baby surrogacy storyline.
The Billy Mayhew actor promised "twists and turns" ahead, as he teased Mike and Esther's real identities - suggesting fans could be on to something.
The couple joined the soap not too long ago, and after learning Billy's adopted daughter Summer Spellman was pregnant and wasn't sure she wanted to keep the baby, they took action.
Sharing their struggles with fertility and their desperation to have a child, they paid Summer £10,000 to hand over her child when they were born.
Summer agreed, but sadly she suffered a miscarriage - something she is still keeping from Mike and Esther, despite taking their money.
Upcoming scenes will see the couple proposition Summer in exchange for her keeping the £10k - as they ask her to be their surrogate.
Now, speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Billy actor Daniel has spilled there is something going on with the mystery couple - as fans have been guessing.
Viewers questioned if Esther was Summer's biological mother, as others wondered if there was something creepy going on with them.
Amid theories Summer will be in grave danger at the hands of the pair in upcoming weeks, Daniel told us that there were "twists and turns" ahead.
He explained: "We have got lots of stuff coming up. We're in the middle of the surrogacy stuff, that’s on screen now but the stuff we're shooting now won’t be on screen until February.
"Oh I can't say anything, they are obviously… there’s something a little bit sinister about them I think, and watching them on screen... a lot of their scenes were without me so it’s interesting to see it unfolding as a viewer.
"But there will be plenty of twists and turns before the storyline finishes, yeah."
On the storyline, and Billy being against Summer having a child for the couple, he went on: "Billy always tries to do the right thing and very rarely manages it.
"But his intuition is always good and I think as a parent he very much wants to support her in her decisions, even if they are rubbish but I think Summer is doing this, in her head, for the right reasons. So realistically she’s trying to do a good thing."
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
