Coronation Concert sparks BBC complaints as viewers hit out at 'late' start

King Charles' Coronation Concert sparked the same complaint from many BBC viewers on Sunday night - it started far too late, with others annoyed they were 'left waiting' for the Royal Family to turn up and that Prince Louis didn't make an appearance.

The biggest event of Coronation weekend, after King Charles' Coronation itself at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, the Coronation Concert united a bill of A list stars, including Nicole Scherzinger, Take That, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry, who was seen taking her seat in the Abbey a day earlier.

A crowd of 20,000 gathered in the gardens of Windsor Castle ready to watch show-stopping performances from other acts including Steve Winwood and Olly Murs, but those watching from home were left annoyed that it wasn't on TV until 8pm and, then when the BBC's live coverage started, it took a long time for the concert to start.

Anchoring the broadcast for BBC One, Kirsty Young had time to conduct a number of interviews, as did Clara Amfo and Jordan Banjo backstage, as viewers were told King Charles and Queen Camilla 'were on the way.

When they did eventually arrive, it came during an interview with Pussycat Doll star Nicole, with her chat with Jordan brought to an about when before the gig finally got going.

And the lack of actual performances in the first half hour proved to be a real issue for plenty of people on Twitter. One complained: "Why is the #CoronationConcert on so late !!! @bbc flip me just get on with it, rubbish line up I’d say but hoping it will be good," with a second reacting: "Just put BBC One on and it’s just interviews…… confused….. isn’t this meant to be music?!?"

Looking at the advertised time slot in the TV guide for the concert as time ticked on, a third tweeted: "Is this concert running late ?, hour and half doesn't seem long with the lineup they have ?"
