Cornwall’s Hub Box burger chain expands into Dorset, creating 25 jobs

Cornwall-headquartered burger chain Hub Box is set to open its first restaurant in Dorset, creating 25 jobs.

The opening at the Brewery Square retail complex in Dorchester will be the 12th overall site for the company, which reported record sales of £12.6m earlier this year.

The move is part of wider expansion plans for Hub Box which has previously said it could look to grow to more than 100 outlets.

Hub Box said the new eatery in Brewery Square will open in “early October” in a unit on Eldridge Street, and will include indoor and outdoor dining spaces and a dedicated bar area. The new jobs it will create will be a mix of part-time and full-time positions.

The firm added the 120-seater restaurant’s “surf culture” design will include furnishings featuring the work of local suppliers - with a focus on sustainability and reclaimed materials.

Richard Boon, founder and chief executive of Hub Box, said: “Brewery Square is a thriving destination in Dorset’s county town which lends itself perfectly as a location for our restaurant. As a proud South West business, we believe in choosing areas which celebrate local culture and drive awareness of independent businesses.

“Our Dorchester restaurant signifies a milestone in our journey as we venture into a new county, bringing job opportunities to the area and growing our passionate team culture. It’s a truly exciting time for Hub Box and we’re looking forward to welcoming the Dorset community through our doors this autumn.”

Charlotte Spracklen, centre manager at Brewery Square, added: “We’re thrilled that Hub Box has chosen Brewery Square to host its first Dorset restaurant. The company’s commitment to celebrating local produce is in-keeping with our own values, as we pride ourselves on showcasing the very best that Dorset has to offer with our diverse mix of businesses.

“Hub Box will add to our exceptional quality restaurant offering, giving people extended choice, and transforming their visit to Brewery Square into even more of a memorable experience.”

Hub Box’s other sites are located in St Ives, Truro, Pentewan, Falmouth, Exeter, Plymouth, Taunton, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Bristol and Portsmouth.

The business opened three restaurants during lockdown and said its coastal restaurants party benefited from increased business from a rise in South West tourism and holidaymakers.
