Corner Corner: Kerb to launch hot new food and music space in Canada Water

The street food specialist Kerb and music curator the Broadwick Group will launch a new concept next week, bringing together restaurant brands, live jazz and a focus on sustainable farming to a former waterside retail unit.

Corner Corner, on Maritime Street in Canada Water, will be home to its own vertical farm, with much of the produce grown, from vegetables to salads, used at the venue’s all-day cafe.

Elsewhere will be the likes of newcomers Sireli, the Armenian small plates restaurant fresh from a successful residency at the National Theatre. The Sireli menu includes dishes such as charred cauliflower with butternut squash, zhug and pangrattato; harissa lamb koftes; salt cod croquettes; and flatbreads.

Kerb said the food hall will be open from Thursday to Sunday each week, beginning on April 4. Also on the roster are Chick N Sours – this marks the brand’s first site south of the river – bao specialist Jou Jou’s Bites, and Masa Tacos, which has sold out of vintage trucks for years.

Kerb CEO Simon Mitchell said the line-up “showcases the diversity of London’s independent food scene”, with food “from fantastic fried chicken to the phenomenal flavours of Taiwan, Mexico and Armenia.”

Mitchell added: “Unlike anywhere else, we’re giving our traders the opportunity to champion sustainability by sourcing ingredients from the in-house vertical farm.”

As well as the food, Corner Corner will host a twelve-week music program from Broadwick, ranging from jazz to funk to world music, and is to platform names such as Donna Leake and Haseeb Iqbal.

Fridays and Saturdays will be big: already scheduled to play are Mercury Prize-winning Denys Baptiste, Grammy-nominated Acantha Lang, virtuoso flautist Gareth Lockrane, and trumpet players Mark Kavuma and Graeme Flowers.

Simeon Aldred from Broadwick Group said: “We’re proud to launch Corner Corner with Kerb and to present the first 12 weeks of music in this experimental space.

“What makes this project special is the transformation of a former high street store into a vibrant cultural hub. This reimagining of space is a key element of our mission.”
