Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, has taken action against Chi Phi fraternity after a reported incident of sexual assault and coercion involving drugs. The Ivy League school temporarily suspended Chi Phi this week following a report made to the Cornell University Police Department.

According to the police alert issued on Nov. 8, an individual came forward alleging that they were sexually assaulted by multiple males and coerced into consuming ketamine and other drugs over Halloween weekend. The incident was reported to the police on the same day.

The fraternity where the alleged assault occurred, located on Edgemoor Lane in Ithaca, has been suspended with immediate effect. Both Cornell University and Chi Phi have yet to respond to media inquiries regarding the situation.

Reports indicate that following the incident, a student activist group known as Riot Moon vandalized the Chi Phi fraternity house, expressing concerns about sexual violence on campus. Riot Moon has declared a campaign against fraternities, highlighting them as potential perpetrators of such crimes.

In an op-ed titled 'Ban the Frats,' the university's newspaper editorial board addressed the incident, emphasizing that the issue of sexual violence at Cornell goes beyond a single fraternity. The board called for a permanent ban on fraternities, suggesting the creation of more inclusive and democratic spaces on campus.

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the alleged assault, urging anyone with information to contact the Cornell University Public Safety Communications Center at 607-255-1111.
