Cork stabbing victim Jason Butler tragically lost parents and three siblings in years before death

Jason Butler, who tragically died after being stabbed in Cork city centre, had previously lost three of his siblings as well as both his parents.

Tributes have been flowing in for the beloved 32-year-old from Mildeton with family and friends describing him as a "harmless" man.

Jason, 32, grew up in Castleredmond and came from a large family who have been left heartbroken by this week's news. He had six siblings, however three of them, his brothers PJ, Thomas, and Richard, passed away over a decade ago, Cork Beo reports.

His parents Trish and Patrick (known lovingly as Paddins) had also passed away over a decade ago.

Jason had spent his final years trying to move on from homelessness, and had been living in a St Vincent de Paul residence in Cork city and working towards a new life for himself.

Sadly that life was cut short after receiving a stab wound to the neck while on Grand Parade on Wednesday, June 14.

Emergency services closed off the area and medics worked tirelessly at the scene to try and stabilise him before he was transferred to CUH in a critical condition.

He passed away around lunchtime on Friday June 16th.

A man was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently before the courts, meanwhile friends and family have been posting tributes to Jason online.

One person said: "I hope you get the best bed in heaven cuz, your with ur mommy and daddy now rest in ur bed of roses."

Another said: "RIP Jason Butler, you're with your mother father and brothers now angel.

"May god give you a good bed on heaven look down on your brothers and family at this very sad time."

Another friend wrote: "I have some crazy memories with you. Hope you get the best bed up there, until we meet again, sleep tight my friend."

Jason's funeral details have yet to be released.
