Cork's Colm Lyons to take charge of Limerick-Kilkenny All-Ireland hurling final

Colm Lyons has been appointed to referee the All-Ireland hurling final between Limerick and Kilkenny on Sunday week.

It will be the first time that the Cork man will be in charge for the final though he has been the man in the middle in the past for the minor final (2012), the Allianz League final, Leinster final (both 2017) and a pair of All-Ireland club finals (2018 and ‘20).

The Nemo Rangers man has refereed three games in this year’s Championship already - the Galway-Kilkenny and Clare-Limerick round robin meetings in Leinster and Munster respectively, as well as the Clare-Wexford All-Ireland quarter-final.

Incidentally, Lyons drew frustration from the Limerick camp for sending off Gearoid Hegarty for two bookable offences during that game in Ennis on May 15. It was widely felt that the second yellow card in particular was harsh.

His umpires on the day will be Ciarán Hanley (Brian Dillons) and Johnny Barry (Ballinure) as well as clubmates Philip Mackey and Finian Mullane.

Galway’s Liam Gordon will be the standby referee. The other linesman is Paud O’Dwyer (Carlow) and the sideline official will be Michael Kennedy (Tipperary).
