Cork city stab victim fighting for life in CUH after emergency surgery

A man who was stabbed in Cork city on Wednesday evening has undergone emergency surgery and is now fighting for his life as of Thursday.

At around 7.30pm on Wednesday night, Gardai rushed to the scene on Grand Parade after a man was reportedly stabbed in the neck.

CorkBeo reports that the victim, who is in his 20s, is now in critical condition. A man was seen fleeing the scene but Gardai later made an arrest and a man in his early 20s is now in custody.

The area was cordoned off overnight and a forensic investigation has taken place and as of Thursday morning, the scene remained sealed off.

The report adds that that the suspect is known to Gardai and has a previous conviction related to carrying a knife. Gardai have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí at Bridewell are currently at the scene of a serious assault that occurred on Grand Parade, Cork City this evening, Wednesday, June 14 at approximately 7:30pm.

"One man, aged in his mid-20s, was seriously injured and has been removed from the scene to Cork University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"Gardaí have arrested a man, aged in his early 20s, and he was conveyed to a Garda station in Cork city where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"The scene is currently preserved and investigations are ongoing. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this assault to come forward.

"Any road users and pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash cam) and were in the area of Grand Parade/Daunt Square between 7:15pm and 8pm this evening Wednesday, June 14 are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Bridewell Garda station on 021 494 3330, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
