HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. _ Corgi Beach Day took over Huntington Beach on Saturday.
With every walk signal on PCH, the dogs just kept coming. Corgis dressed as lobsters, superheroes, princesses, and one corgi dressed as a taco.
Three times a year the corgi gathering takes place sponsored by So Cal Corgi Nation. The first beach had just 15 dogs in 2012. Now, the event draws corgi lovers and their height-challenged best friends from all over the United States.
The corgis strut their short bodies and big rumps through the sand and water, taking in a lot of belly rubs and ear scratches along the way. A talent contest shows off the best of the best, and a costume contest shows off the cutest of the cutest of corgis.
One California corgi named Jojo has 65,000 Instagram followers, and So Cal Corgi Nation boasts 10,000 followers.
Since 2013 the group has partnered with Queen's Best Stumpy Dog Rescue, a corgi-specific group which rescues special-needs corgis from high kill shelters in Southern California.
Corgi Beach Day happens three times a year. Summer Corgi Beach Day is set for July 1, 2017, in Long Beach, Calif.
