The family of a child who died following a swimming pool incident on holiday has been “overwhelmed” by community support.
In a brief statement issued on Tuesday evening, Corey Aughey’s family asked for privacy as they prepare to bring their son home.
Corey, who was six-years-old and from North Belfast, passed away in hospital just days after his family had arrived in the Majorca resort of Sa Coma for a break.

In their statement, issued via DUP councillor Dale Pankhurst, Colin and Leanne Aughey said: “Following the tragic death of our beloved son, Corey Aughey, we have been overwhelmed by the immense support provided by the local community. The volume of messages of condolence from right across the community has provided us with some comfort in these extremely difficult circumstances.
“We would ask that our family are given the time and space to grieve privately following the loss of our beloved son.
"We would also ask that the media refrain from trying to make contact with us as we prepare to bring our son home.”
