Cordon in place where man found with 'life-threatening injuries'

Police remain at the scene where a 61-year-old man was found with “life-threatening injuries”.

A cordon is in place at Waterloo Bridge off High Street, Runcorn, with one patrol car parked beyond the tape and more coming and going this morning and into the early afternoon. Crime scene tape has been pulled across the width of the crossing from one side of the bridge to the other, blocking both vehicle and pedestrian access.

A specific triangular section of pathway on the bridge has been marked out in tape. Detectives launched an appeal for information after the man was discovered with serious injuries at around 2.30am on Sunday, May 22.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said he was taken to hospital where his condition was described as “life-threatening”.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Murray said: “We understand that this incident will cause some concern but I want to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to piece together what has happened to the man. There are several enquiries ongoing and people will see an increased presence in the town centre. I would urge anyone who may have any concerns to please speak to an officer.

“As part of these enquiries, we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the High Street area in the early hours of Sunday morning and believes that they may have seen something that didn’t look quite right. The same goes to anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the area in the early hours of the morning."
