Cord warning issued to parents over hoodies supplied to Ayrshire school pupils

Trading Standards have issued a warning to parents over hoodies supplied to school pupils.

The retail regulator stated this afternoon that some garments issued to kids may be adult sized and may not be suitable for primary children due to the length of the cord.

Hoodies are typically issued to primary 7 pupils who are leaving for secondary school.

East Ayrshire Trading Standard said today that primary schools, parent associations and parents who have supplied an adult hoodie to a child should either remove the cord or cut it to a maximum length of 7.5cm.

The warning reads: "It has come to the attention of Trading Standards that primary schools and parent associations are supplying personalised hooded garments to children of primary school age.

"Some of these hoodies may be adult sized and not suitable for primary school children due to the length of the cord.

"British Standard EN14682:2014 states that garments for older children and young persons (7-14yrs) the functional cord shall be not more than 7.5cm in length and shall not be made from elastic.

"Primary schools, Parent Associations and parents who have supplied or purchased an adult sized hooded garment should either remove the cord or cut it to a maximum length of 7.5cm."
