Cops storm Greater Manchester street after shop targeted in 'armed robbery'

Police have descended on a Greater Manchester street after a shop was reportedly targeted by armed robbers. Greater Manchester Police says it was called out to Droylsden, Tameside, at around 10am this morning (October 28).

It followed reports of an armed robbery at the Spar convenience store, on Sunnyside Road. The Manchester Evening News understands the offenders targeted the store for cash from behind the till.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large police presence close to the scene following the incident. Several police vans were reported in the area this morning, while a helicopter was also spotted by eyewitnesses.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Greater Manchester Police were called to an incident on Sunnyside Road, Droylsden at around 10am today (Friday, October 28 2022) regarding an armed robbery. Officers are in attendance in what is an ongoing incident at this time."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about it can contact GMP online using LiveChat or by calling 101, quoting log number 975 of October 28, 2022. Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by phoning 0800 555 111.

Spar has been approached for comment.
