Cops remind motorists to be vigilant when defrosting vehicles after spate of car thefts in Lanarkshire

Police in Lanarkshire are urging people to be vigilant when defrosting their vehicles in the icy weather after three reports of motor theft in the last two days.

Officers first received a report of a stolen grey Lexus ES300H, with registration SG21 DZE, at about 9am on Monday, January 16, 2023, from High Blantyre Road, Hamilton.

Shortly after on the same morning, police responded after a black Vauxhall Vivaro van, registration SA18 RWY, was stolen from Victoria Street, in the town.

Then, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 7.30am a blue Mercedes GLA, with reg plate DX64 JSV, was taken from outside a property on Hume Drive, Bothwell.

Police Scotland are now reminding people that these thefts can happen within "seconds" of people leaving their cars unattended.

A source told Lanarkshire Live: "We are urging you to keep an eye out for suspicious vehicles but more importantly, to remain inside your vehicle when it's defrosting or switched on.

"There is nothing to suggest that these thefts are linked, but enquiries into each report are ongoing."

Anyone with any CCTV/doorbell cameras in any of these areas are being asked to please check your footage and pass information on to police on 101 quoting incident number 0693 of 16th January 2023.
