Police have issued an update on their murder investigation following the death of a man in Salford. Greater Manchester Police were called out to Seedley Road at around 4pm on Friday (May 5) following a disturbance.

A man was found injured at the scene and was taken to hospital by ambulance. He was later pronounced dead at 5.10pm.

Officers arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the death. In an update issued today (Sunday), GMP says the man has since been released pending further enquiries.

Police remained at the scene throughout Friday evening. Neighbours on the estate - described as 'quiet' by multiple residents - were left shocked at the scenes unfolding before them, as children played on the street against a backdrop of police tape.

"It's absolutely horrible," one woman told the Manchester Evening News. "This estate is full of children. Who would do something like that here?"

Another man described how he had seen the victim collapse literally outside his front door, before he was treated by paramedics. "You just don't expect this to happen literally on your doorstep," he said.

"I have lived here since 2008 and crime in the surrounding area has got worse. Lots of dodgy things go on around here."

Superintendent Joe Harrop said on Friday: "Detectives from the Major Incident Team are now investigating the murder and it is believed there is no risk to the wider community, as it appears to be an isolated incident. We are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident this evening, or if anyone has any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage, to contact us via 101."
