Cops in Lanarkshire recovered Samurai sword from drunk after disturbance

A Samurai sword and a knife were recovered by police after an early morning disturbance in East Kilbride.

The incident resulted in two men appearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.

Robert Dobbie, 45, formerly of East Kilbride and now of Rosa Place, Saltcoats, admitted carrying a sword.

Iain McKendrick, 38, of Main Street, Blantyre, admitted possession of a kitchen knife in a public place.

Dobbie was also charged with shouting abuse, making threats, brandishing the sword at another man and fighting with him, but his not guilty plea was accepted.

The court heard police were called to Trinidad Way around 6am on June 5 last year.

Aga Mathieson, prosecuting, said: "Both accused were in Dobbie's then home. They had been drinking throughout the night.

"Both were intoxicated and a neighbour contacted the police.

"Officers checked CCTV and observed the men in the close with weapons.

"When charged neither made a reply."

Sheriff Linda Nicolson deferred sentence on Dobbie and McKendrick until next month for background reports and electronic tagging assessments.

Both were allowed to remain on bail.
