Cops in Lanarkshire launch investigation after HGV deliberately torched

Police are appealing for information after an HGV was deliberately set on fire at a business premises in Shotts.

Officers were made aware of the blaze on Springfield Road in the Salsburgh area around 3.10am on Monday (May 2).

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service officers attended and extinguished the fire - there were no reports of any injuries.

However, police have confirmed several vehicles were damaged as a result.

Now investigating officers are asking for help in tracing the man responsible.

DC Carla O’Neill told Lanarkshire Live : “Thankfully no-one was injured by this reckless act.

“But significant damage has been caused as a result.

“I am appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious to please get in touch with local officers.”

The suspect is described as a white man, between 5ft 10 and 6ft in height, of slim build and wearing dark clothing with a hood.

Anyone with any information should contact Police via 101.

Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
