Police searching for drugs found a kilo of cannabis next to a rubbish bin in the suspect’s garden.
Haydn Cameron claimed he was only looking after the package to pay off a debt.
Cameron admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis at his home in Bent Crescent, Viewpark, on July 7 this year.
The 28-year-old also admitted having a personal amount of the drug.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard the one kilo package was worth up to £10,000 if subdivided and sold in 1g deals.
Cameron has previous convictions for drugs offences and served sentences totalling 33 months.
Defence agent David Kinloch told the court: “He has been a long term habitual user of cannabis.
“His use of the drug has brought him into contact with others further up the scale.
“He got out of prison in August 2020 and owed money to people.
“He went back to smoking cannabis for which he wasn’t paying. He was then asked to look after some.”
Cameron was remanded in custody after an initial court appearance and lost his job at a bakery as a result.
Mr Kinloch added: “He is an intelligent young man with a good background. He has learned his lesson.”
Sheriff Thomas Millar told Cameron: “The easiest thing would be to send you back to custody for an extended period, but I’ll get background reports to see if we can get you off the drugs.
"That, I think, would stop further offending.”
Sentence was deferred until later this month and Cameron was again remanded in custody.
