Police are hunting a gang of masked firebugs who deliberately torched three cars before fleeing the scene during a late night attack. Emergency services were called to the car park outside a Travelodge on Kings Inch Road in Braehead, Renfrew, shortly before 1am on Tuesday, September 27.
A Kia Sorrento, a Mitsubishi Shogun and a Toyota Hiace were found ablaze with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews swiftly tackling the flames. No one was injured but all three vehicles were badly damaged and remain at the scene behind a police cordon.
The Toyota appears to have collided with the wall of a building before the front end caught fire. The side door of the motor lies open and appears to be filled with tools. The Kia has also been extensively damaged by the blaze with the back and side windows smashed.
Officers have said they are keen to trace four men - who were dressed completely in black and wearing face masks - that were seen in the area.
Detective Constable Gary Bruce said: “Fortunately no one was injured but three vehicles were extensively damaged and we are keen to speak to the men seen at the time.
“If you saw anything suspicious, or have dash-cam or private CCTV footage that could assist with our ongoing investigation then please get in touch.”
Anyone who can help with enquiries is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
