Cops hunt cruel dog owner seen punching Husky dog in Lanarkshire street

Police are hunting a vile thug who was seen beating a dog in a residential street in East Kilbride.

The man, believed to be the dog's owner, reportedly pinned the helpless white Husky down by the neck and repeatedly punched the pet on its back end.

When challenged by the witness, the man is said to have launched into a tirade of verbal abuse and stated that the "dog needed disciplined".

The cruel offence is believed to have happened on Telford Road in The Murray area between 7pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday (March 9).

East Kilbride Police confirmed the incident was reported to police and are appealing for information to help identify the dog's owner.

Sergeant Scott Anderson told Lanarkshire Live : "A woman attended East Kilbride Police Office and reported this incident.

"She could not provide any suspect details, there’s no CCTV and no further witnesses. She was asked to contact the SSPCA (Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

"If the identity of the persons involved are known, the SSPCA and police could attend and carry out a welfare check on the animals within the property."

The SSPCA told us the incident has not yet been reported to them.

In a post on Lost Dogs in East Kilbride the suspect was described as a male, dressed in black with a hood. He was with a female aged around 18 years old with blonde hair in a ponytail. The pair also had another small dog with them.

Lanarkshire Live understands the suspect has been seen walking the dog at Brancumhall pitches where a further alleged attack was carried out.

Anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
