A witness appeal has been launched after an elderly cyclist was seriously injured in a road crash in East Kilbride yesterday.
The incident happened on the A749 Glasgow Road near the Kingsgate Retail Park at around 12.15pm on Monday, April 10.
The collision involved a 69-year-old male cyclist and a red Suzuki Alto car.
The pensioner was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment where he was treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The male driver of the car was uninjured.
Police locked down the area and the road to the Kingsgate roundabout was closed for some time, causing traffic gridlock.
Drivers trying to exit the car park of the retail park faced a two-hour wait.
A diversion was put in place as officers managed the traffic.
Sergeant Gemma Blackadder of the Road Policing Unit in Lanarkshire is appealing for witnesses to come forward.
She said: “Our enquiries to establish the circumstances which led to this collision are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may be able to help to come forward.
“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and may have dashcam footage."
Anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 1477 of 10 April, 2023.
