Cops and paramedic race to A92 after van comes off road during severe weather

Cops and paramedics swarmed a busy Scots road this morning after a van came off the road during brutal weather.

Officers from Police Scotland and ambulance teams raced to the A92 at around 7am near Cowdenbeath.

A car was also pictured on the A92 facing the wrong way after a traffic crash.

The disruption caused major standstill traffic queues in the snow which were caught on video.

It comes as Scotland as been pelted with snow as Storm Gladys brings strong winds, and even the chance of lightning.

A Met Office warning has been in force since 5pm Wednesday evening and is ending at 8pm tonight.

The severe wintry weather brought heavy snowfall, lightning as well as the rare weather phenomenon known as 'thundersnow' to Scotland overnight.

Scots woke up to cosy winter scenes as flurries fell on their snow-covered gardens, rooftops and roads across the country.

Storm Gladys is forecasted after Storm Franklin, Eunice and Dudley battered the UK in quick succession last week.

The concentrated spell of extreme weather in the last week has brought, in turns, waves of snow, rain, ice, wind and hail.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 7am on Thursday, 24 February, police were called to a report of road crash on A92 near Cowdenbeath where a van had come off the road.

"Officers attended and Ambulance were called.

"The van was recovered."
