Cop hospitalised after being cut by razor found when searching Lanarkshire man

A police officer needed hospital treatment after being cut by a razor while searching a man in Bothwell.

It happened after emergency workers went to the aid of John Millar who had been found with a wound to his neck.

Millar, of Tantallon Road, Bothwell, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

The 45-year-old admitted culpable and reckless conduct that caused PC Reece Sloan to be injured in Alderside Place on April 14.

The charge stated that Millar told the officer, who was carrying out a search, he had nothing sharp in his pockets.

Jennifer Cunningham, prosecuting, said Millar was being treated by paramedics around 10pm for a cut to his neck.

It was believed the wound was self-inflicted.

PC Sloan then began to search him and cut his finger in the process.

A two-inch surgical razor was found in the accused's jeans pocket.

The officer was given a tetanus jag, a hepatitis booster and a course of antibiotics to ward off possible infection.

Millar required hospital treatment for his neck wound.

Sheriff Liam Murphy deferred sentence until next month for a criminal justice social work report and an electronic tagging assessment.

Millar was allowed to remain on bail.
