The Los Angeles Rams opted not to put Cooper Kupp on injured reserve and unless there’s a setback, there’s almost no chance he will be added to the list. He missed one game already so if the Rams were to put him on IR, he’d have to miss another four games.
Kupp was in a cast after injuring his ankle and it sounds like he’s now begun the rehab process as he works his way back. Sean McVay provided a brief update Monday, saying that while Kupp won’t play this week against the Bears, he is “attacking every single day.”
“No updates on those guys,” he said of the players on IR. “When it gets to the point that they can start returning to practice or we would end up taking them off of that with the [designated to return] ‘DIR’, then I’ll let you know. As far as Cooper, he’s attacking every single day. Not going to be available for this week, if that’s what you’re asking.”
Because the Rams didn’t put him on IR, they believe he can return before missing four games. They’ll face the Bears on Sunday, the Packers the following week and then have a bye in Week 6, so Kupp could potentially be looking at a return in Week 7 when the Rams take on the Raiders.
The offense moved the ball against the 49ers on Sunday en route to a shocking 27-24 win, but this is a team that needs its top receiver back as soon as possible.
