It's either a cracking idea or just plain crackers... Subway fans can now try a Cadbury Creme Egg toasted sandwich.
The Easter SubMelt – “golden toasted on the outside and deliciously gooey on the inside” – will be handed out free tomorrow at just four branches, in London, Liverpool, Swansea and Glasgow.
But if you miss out, here are eight other eggcentric ways to answer the classic Creme Egg question: “How do you eat yours?”
CREME EGG TOASTIE
As toasties go, it doesn’t get much more decadent than this.
Instead of your usual filling, break up a Creme Egg into small pieces and heat in the microwave for 10 seconds, then add it evenly between your slices of bread, buttered on the outside. Cook until the bread is golden.
CREME EGG TRAY BAKE
You can add Creme Eggs to the top of a tray bake for a special Eastery taste.
Make your chocolate bake as normal and top with icing, before smashing up five Creme Eggs and spreading them over the cake.
SCOTCH CREME EGGS
This is a very sweet spin on the savoury classic. Crumble brownies into a bowl, then compact the crumbs around the Creme Eggs before chilling briefly.
Next, cover them in melted chocolate, followed by chocolate sprinkles, and leave them to set in the fridge.
CREME EGG ROCKY ROAD
This is a sweet treat you can make entirely in the microwave by melting chocolate, butter and golden syrup, then adding marshmallow, crushed biscuits and five roughly chopped Creme Eggs.
Press it all into a lined tin, put more Creme Eggs on top and let it cool.
CREME EGG PIZZA
Ice cream man Ricky Hughes, below, makes gooey Creme Egg pizzas for sweet-toothed customers in Colwyn Bay, North Wales.
Just spread Nutella over a flan base and cover it with ice-cream, then top with caramel sauce, sprinkles, chocolate shavings and Creme Eggs cut in half.
CREME EGG PANCAKES
For an Easter morning treat, remove the goo from a Creme Egg, put it to one side and then add the chocolate to some pancake mix for a chocolate-flavoured pancake.
Finally, warm the goo to add a delicious topping.
CREME EGG DIP
Here’s a serious sugar rush for your Easter party. Whisk some cream in a bowl until soft peaks form, then add vanilla paste, cream cheese and icing sugar before whisking again until smooth.
Next, chop up a few Creme Eggs and stir them into the mixture, and place it in the fridge for 20 minutes before serving.
You can use biscuits, chocolates or marshmallows for dipping.
CREME EGG MILKSHAKE
Whip together milk, ice cream and Creme Eggs in a blender and voila – your perfect Easter pick-me-up.
Serve in glasses and top with whipped cream, caramel and chocolate sauce – or even more Creme Eggs.
