Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx was reportedly assaulted near her home in Chicago over the weekend, as per court records.
The suspect, a 34-year-old individual, has been charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and aggravated battery in a public place.
According to sources, the suspect allegedly shouted an insult at Foxx and nearly hit her with his vehicle as he drove by. Foxx responded with a hand gesture, prompting the suspect to reverse his vehicle and throw a drink at Foxx, hitting her in the face.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident but has since been released. Fortunately, Foxx did not sustain any injuries during the altercation.
This incident occurred following Foxx's recent announcement that she will not seek re-election, marking the end of her controversial tenure in public office.
Foxx assumed the role of state's attorney for Cook County, Illinois, in 2016 and has faced significant criticism for her lenient enforcement policies, notably her handling of the Jussie Smollett case.
One of the most contentious decisions made by Foxx was dropping charges against Smollett, a Black and gay actor who staged a fake hate crime. This move sparked widespread backlash and raised concerns about Foxx's approach to justice.
Notably, Foxx received substantial support from billionaire George Soros, who contributed significantly to her campaigns in 2016 and 2020.
Soros has a history of endorsing progressive prosecutor candidates, like Foxx, who advocate for leniency in enforcement, oppose cash bail, and promote restorative justice programs for young offenders.
