Convicted Lanarkshire paedophile who fled to Thailand arrested on international warrant after eight-year hunt

A Lanarkshire paedophile who was convicted of possession of indecent images of children eight years ago has been arrested in Thailand on an international warrant.

William Dempster, 46, is set to be extradited back to Scotland after being taken into police custody yesterday following an operation involving officers across the globe.

Following extensive enquiries by Police Scotland, the National Crime Agency and the Royal Thai Police, Dempster was arrested in Pattaya.

Dempster was convicted of having indecent pictures of children in his possession in May 2014.

But following his conviction, he fled the UK before he could be sentenced, sparking a hunt to track him down.

In a statement, Police Scotland said: "Earlier today [May 30], following extensive enquiries by our officers and our colleagues at the National Crime Agency and the Royal Thai Police, Dempster was arrested on an international warrant in Pattaya and will now face extradition proceedings."
