A man jumped out of the dock and fled court after being jailed for assault. Nicholas Bunclark, 30, is still at large following his escape during sentencing.
The 30-year-old was handed a 16 month sentence earlier today at Liverpool Crown Court after being convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. This sentencing came after an attack at a hostel in Merseyside back in 2021.
The Liverpool Echo reports that Bunclark held his head in his hands after his sentence was delivered. Following a brief interaction with his mother in the public gallery, he was then led towards the cells.
However, this is when he reportedly made his escape and allegedly vaulted the gate out of the unsecured dock. The 30-year-old is said to have undergone a brief tussle with officers but still managed to make it out of the courtroom.
After the incident, a heightened security presence was seen around the court, with it being believed that Bunclark had not left the building. Patrolling guards were also seen keeping watch outside on Derby Square, while several other cases were adjourned as a result of the escape.
It is understood that Bunclark has not yet been apprehended. Liverpool Echo have contacted The Ministry of Justice and Merseyside Police for comment on the incident.
