Conversations with Friends trailer gives first look at new BBC Three drama

Sally Rooney is a gift that keeps on giving.

She is best-known for Normal People, a smash hit book which became a smash hit BBC Three drama.

Now a trailer for BBC Three’s adaptation of Rooney’s debut novel, Conversation with Friends, has landed.

The cast includes Sex Education actor Jemima Kirke and The Favourite’s Joe Alwyn as the married couple who become involved with a pair of students played by Alison Oliver and Sasha Lane.

The 12-episode season is directed by Normal People director Lenny Abrahamson, as well as Leanne Welham.

When will Conversations with Friends air?

Conversations with Friends premieres in May 2022 on BBC Three and will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

What is Conversations with Friends about?

The series follows Frances, played by Oliver, who is a 21-year-old Dublin university student who tries to navigate her way through a maze of relationships while taking stock of her own vulnerabilities.

Conversations with Friends focuses on the interesting relationship between Frances and Bobbi - who are friends but also lovers.

Their deep feelings for each other get even more confusing when they both become involved with an older married couple.

Frances, in particular, becomes embroiled in a complicated love triangle.

The book was published in 2017 around the time Rooney was studying for her master’s degree in American literature.

Is there a trailer for Conversations with Friends?

In the trailer, which you can watch at the top of this article,. we are introduced to the four main characters - Frances and her ex-girlfriend, now best friend Bobbi, along with the older married couple, Nick and Melissa.

The teaser quickly builds up to some intimate scenes with Frances and the older married man, played by Alwyn (aka Taylor Swift's boyfriend).

BBC viewers will find out in May if the adaptation lives up to the Normal People TV series.
