Controversy as Nottingham Hooters sponsors under 10s football team

Hooters has caused a stir after the restaurant agreed to sponsor a Nottinghamshire junior football team. The American chain of sports bars has just one restaurant in the UK, based in Nottingham, with that branch now set to sponsor Burton Joyce's Under-10 team for their forthcoming youth football season.

Hooters Nottingham confirmed the news on Thursday, September 1, in a Facebook post. Alongside pictures of the players posing with two waitresses from the restaurant, the caption read: “Hooters Nottingham are proud to be the new sponsors of Burton Joyce U10s. We wish you all the luck this season boys. Go smash it.”

However, football fans were quick to flood the comments section as they jokingly reacted to the news, with one writing: “The attendances are up by 90%.”

Another added: “I’m guessing ALL the dads showed up for this match.” A third fan also commented: “Bet the end of season do is going to be a sell out with dads and dads’ friends.”

One more supporter wrote: “Sunday morning just got more exciting and it’s not for the chicken wings.” Meanwhile, another added: “Nice one Burton Joyce you’ve done me proud lol.” One more fan also joked: “Keep your eyes on the ball lads.”

The iconic restaurant chain is famous for having its beloved bowls of chicken wings served to customers by scantily-clad waitresses wearing short shorts and iconic white t-shirts with the Hooters logo emblazoned across them. With the Nottingham branch having opened 19 years ago, a second restaurant is understood to be coming to the UK soon. Salford has been chosen as the location for Hooters' newest UK branch.

Having previously closed their Cardiff and Bristol restaurants in 2012, just two years after opening, Hooters' plans to open a branch in Salford were confirmed in June after they overcame protests from a feminist group.
