'Controversial' Kim Kardashian and Meghan Markle will 'guarantee attention' for Met Gala

Kim Kardashian is set to attend the Met Gala, despite previous claims she was banned from the prestigious red carpet event.

The 42-year-old reality star will be joined by a host of other A-list celebrities, with some reports suggesting Meghan Markle could make her debut at the fashion extravaganza.

Inviting the "two controversial celebrities" will "guarantee attention", according to a celebrity PR expert.

"Kim is famous for being famous and a controversial figure, and so is Meghan.

"It makes sense Vogue would invite two controversial celebrities. They guarantee press attention, which guarantees eyeballs, which guarantees advertisers money.

"It may be classy, but it’s still all about the Benjamins at the end of the day," US publicity expert Matt Yanofsky told The Mirror.

Kim stole the show at last year's Met Gala as she rocked up wearing Marilyn Monroe's iconic gold dress.

According to Matt, this year will be no different and fans can expect the Kardashians star to command attention.

The Moment Lab founder said: "Kim Kardashian specialises in getting attention for herself. You can bet she will create a splash on the red carpet."

It had previously been suggested the Kardashians were cut from the guest list this year as Vogue editor Anna Wintour "cracks down" on who can attend.

However, a source has now told Page Six the SKIMS founder will be at the glamorous event.

Speaking about the Vogue editor's decision to invite celebrities such as Kim and Meghan, Matt told us: "Vogue is a high-end, prestige outlet, but prestige doesn't guarantee news coverage.

"When Anna Wintour first took over Vogue in the eighties, she famously broke from tradition and put celebs on the cover because she knew it would create attention.

"Wintour invites celebrities to the Met Gala for the same reason: She wants attention for her product (in this case, the Met Gala), so Vogue can charge a premium to advertisers who sponsor their live stream of the Gala."

He added: "It's possible that Kim was always actually invited.

"Either Kim or Wintour could have pushed a false narrative that she wasn’t invited to create drama around the Met Gala.

"Claiming Kim wasn't invited, then inviting her creates multiple stories and news articles speculating about what is happening. Press is all about narratives, and someone clearly created an extended narrative, guaranteeing buzz around the Met Gala."
