Consultations opened for improved access to Bridgend train station

Bridgend County Borough Council has launched a public consultation on proposals to improve walking and cycling facilities in Bridgend town centre this month with a focus on the area near the railway station.

The consultation discusses plans that include a new eastern entrance to Bridgend railway station from Tremains Road including a new drop-off area. There could also be a new walking and cycling route introduced to the town with a "vibrant open space and active frontage along Brackla Street".

It comes just months after Bridgend college unveiled plans for a new £50m learning centre in the middle of the town in 2022 with the hope that the latest proposals might encourage more people to use public transport, walk, or cycle to the area.

A section of the survey reads: "This survey has been launched as part of the Infuse programme to better understand user needs around active travel, particularly the barriers that people and communities face in accessing and using local schemes."

It goes on: "A new entrance to Bridgend railway station on the eastern side of the track is being proposed along with an active travel connection from the railway station to Cheapside with a vibrant open space and active frontage along Brackla Street."

The Bridgend Town Centre Active Travel survey is now open and asks residents from the area to answer a series of questions designed to help make the town more accessible. You can read more of our stories from Bridgend here, or subscribe to our dedicated newsletter here.
