Consultation launched over plans to move Lanarkshire Post Office

A consultation has been launched over plans to move Strathaven Post Office to a new location.

The current branch in Green Street is operated on the Post Office's behalf by a temporary postmaster.

But proposals would see the branch operate from the Gulf petrol station on Hamilton Road as a local style branch.

Opening hours would be 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 3pm on a Saturday - the current branch is closed on a Saturday.

The Green Street branch shut suddenly in 2018 but was reopened soon after with the temporary postmaster.

And the current consultation - with residents being asked their views - will end on Tuesday, December 13.

If plans go-ahead the change is expected to come into place this December or January next year.

In a letter outlining the consultation, the Post Office state: "Whilst this current arrangement has enabled us to maintain access to Post Office services to our customers in the area, we have now identified an alternative location to continue to offer Post Office services to the local community.

"We are pleased to inform you that a new agent has been appointed who has identified an alternative location to operate Strathaven Post Office from the above new location, subject to consultation.

"Our priority is to safeguard our services in the locality in the longer term and the relocation of Strathaven Post Office would enable us to maintain a Post Office service to our customers in the local community.

"We’re now starting a period of local public consultation and feedback is important to us as it will help to inform our decision."

The Post Office are looking for views on how easy it is to get to the new proposed location, how easy it is to get into and how accessible it is, and are there any other community issues which could be affected by or affect the proposed Post Office move.

You can share your views on the proposed change through a online questionnaire via the website.

When entering the website, use the search function to find the consultation for this branch either by branch name, postcode or the unique branch code 163832.

Or email comments@postoffice.co.uk or call 03452 66 01 15.
