Construction to begin within weeks at new onshore wind farm

CONSTRUCTION on the Mill Rig Wind Farm is set to begin within weeks, with work expected to start before Easter.

The project, spanning the South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire border, will feature six turbines with a combined capacity of 33.4 megawatts, enough to power over 45,000 homes annually.

OnPath Energy, the developer behind the project, has appointed three key contractors: R J McLeod for civil engineering and off-site work, Nordex to supply and install the turbines, and Natural Power to provide construction management services.

The Mill Rig Wind Farm, with a £91 million investment in the local economy, will create around 300 direct jobs and additional opportunities in the wider supply chain.

A community fund will also be established, contributing up to £167,000 annually for local charities and groups, and £450,000 will be invested in local training and employment in the first five years.

Construction and commissioning are expected to be completed by spring 2026.

Martin Kellerman, construction director at OnPath Energy, said: “The Mill Rig Wind Farm will bring a wide range of direct environmental, energy security and community benefits to the local area, as well as a £91m investment in the local economy."

The project will add to OnPath’s growing portfolio, including several other wind farms across Scotland and England.
