Construction firm Beard secures place on three major frameworks

Construction firm Beard has won a place on three major construction frameworks in the South West.

The 130-year-old business, which is headquartered in Swindon, will be connected with public sector organisations for the chance to work on the development of education, health, local authority and leisure buildings.

Beard has been included on the fifth generation of a £4.5bn procurement scheme from Southern Construction Framework (SCF), a joint venture between Devon County Council and Hampshire County Council.

The family-run company has also been added to a £2.5bn Ministry of Justice framework, as well as a £300m scheme from procurement body Fusion21 for the refurbishment and construction of buildings for up to 300 youth projects.

Matt Cooper, director at Beard, said: “The ethos which drives the creation of frameworks – the need to ensure the best value, speed, confidence and certainty into the delivery of public-money construction contracts – fits perfectly with Beard’s own principles of creating long-term partnerships and working collaboratively with customers and contractors.”

Kingsley Clarke, SCF operations lead in the South West added: “We are delighted to welcome Beard to our fifth generation SCF Construct framework. We’re very much looking forward to working with them and their local supply chains on some innovative schemes in the region.”

Beard now holds a place on 14 frameworks across the areas covered by its head office in Wiltshire and three regional offices in Bristol, Guildford and Oxford. The company said it had now secured and delivered 28 framework projects since 2021, with a value of more than £100m.

Earlier this year the business reported its turnover had risen above pre-pandemic levels to £165m, after it completed 45 projects throughout 2022.
