Constantine Hatzidakis breaks silence on Andy Robertson incident during Liverpool game

The assistant referee who appeared to elbow Andy Robertson during Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Arsenal has been asked about the incident - admitting "whatever happens, happens" with an FA investigation underway.

Constantine Hatzidakis was involved in an altercation with the Reds' left-back moments after referee Paul Tierney called half-time at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. Broadcast footage appeared to show Robertson on the receiving end of an apparent elbow from Hatzidakis after approaching the linesman to discuss the officiating during the first half of the Premier League encounter.

In the aftermath of events at Anfield, the Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL), who are responsible for providing referees for the professional game in England, announced that Hatzidakis would not be considered for selection until the Football Association's investigation, and their own, had concluded.

However, the linesman has now spoken publically about the events on Merseyside for the first time, admitting he is ready to accept whatever outcome is decided by the powers that be.

"Whatever happens, happens," said Hatzidakis in conversation with the Daily Mail. "There is nothing more I can say at the moment. I can’t talk about what happened.”

Reporting on the incident midway through the Reds' enthralling 2-2 draw with Premier League leaders Arsenal, Sky Sports touchline reporter Geoff Shreeves said: "Andy Robertson was absolutely apoplectic, stunned even.

“He said ‘The linesman has just elbowed me in the throat’ – Jordan Henderson was well aware of it and led the remonstrations with referee Paul Tierney and after that they got taken away. Extraordinary scenes.”
