Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-RI, launched a scathing attack on FBI director nominee Kash Patel, warning of potential consequences if Republicans support his nomination. Whitehouse accused Patel of potentially causing harm within the FBI due to his past actions, including invoking the Fifth Amendment in a grand jury investigation related to national security secrets.

Conservatives on social media quickly mocked Whitehouse's remarks, with some suggesting that the criticism was unfounded and politically motivated. The Trump War Room, White House rapid response director Greg Price, and conservative commentator Steve Cortes all criticized Whitehouse's statements.

Whitehouse's comments were part of a broader critique of Patel's qualifications by Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., also expressed concerns about Patel's readiness for the role, labeling him as unqualified and unprepared.

Blumenthal warned Republican colleagues that supporting Patel's nomination could have lasting repercussions and urged them to reconsider their stance. He emphasized that the American people would hold them accountable for their decision.

Despite the controversy surrounding his nomination, a senior transition team official for Patel revealed that he had left Washington, D.C., following his hearing and was awaiting the outcome of the nomination process in Las Vegas. The official also shared evidence of Patel engaging in recreational activities, including hunting, away from the political spotlight.

The final vote on Patel's nomination was expected to take place on Thursday afternoon, with both supporters and critics closely monitoring the outcome.
