BirminghamLive's Jane Haynes tweeted today : "I'm inside and just reading this on Twitter is quite bizarre...no announcements inside the media centre as yet..."
Antonello Guerrera tweeted: "We’re currently not allowed to get into the Birmingham ICC as there “has been an incident” an officer told me, at the ICC, where the Tory Conference is taking place. The building is “in lockdown now”."
James Crouch shared: "Currently on lockdown due to an incident outside. So can’t get in or out of the secure zone at #cpc22. At a Tory conference where I’ve felt a bit frightened for the first time in 6 years, this does little to do console me."
It comes as former deputy prime minister Lord Heseltine has said "things are looking pretty bleak" for Tory hopes of winning the next election. He told a conference fringe event: "It will require a very impressive feat of political leadership and it needs to start today. Like this afternoon."
