Conor McGregor teases fourth Dustin Poirier fight with cryptic tweet

Conor McGregor has teased a fourth fight with Dustin Poirier with a cryptic tweet while watching Israel Adesanya vs Alex Pereira at UFC 287 last night.

The lightweight title contenders had an ugly trilogy that ended in controversy with McGregor breaking his leg in the opening round of their final bout, an injury from which he has yet to recover. And as he was being tended to by doctors in the octagon, the Irishman insisted that the feud "is not over".

However, he has since agreed to face Michael Chandler next, not Poirier, with the pair first recording The Ultimate Fighter before squaring off later this year. However, he left a cryptic message on social media last night that allowed fans to believe he was still considering one final match-up with Poirier.

As last night's event, which was billed as Pereira vs Adesanya 2 but was actually the pair's fourth meeting across disciplines, was airing McGregor took to Twitter, simply writing: "Quadrilogy’s [sic] are fun." Fans were excited by the proposition, given that the second and third fights between the two were some of the highest selling UFC pay-per-view events of all time.

One fan wrote "Normalize the quadrilogy, champ," while another added "You knocking Dustin unconscious next?" Another noted the controversial ending of the third, tweeting: "Conor v Dustin 3 doesn't count. Trilogy is incomplete anyway." Their first and second bouts ended in conclusive knockouts either side.

McGregor's loss to Poirier signified a career low-point, with the Irishman spewing hateful messages from the ground as he threatened his rival during an outlandish post-fight interview. He has still not returned to action from the injury, but has agreed to a bout with Chandler later this year subject to the resolution of his issues with Anti-Doping outfit USADA.

What do you think of a fourth fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!

"At the time I thought maybe I won't be able to do this again," McGregor told the MMA Hour last month. "For sure that was in my thoughts. Was I thinking of not making the walk or the roll if I was in a chair? Never. I was actually, where there's a will there's a way and when you're willing, you're able.

"You've only got to look at the other 'Notorious' in the sport Nick Newell who has no hand! There's a way if you have a disability or something, you can find a way. There's another guy Zion Clark who's a wrestling champion, he's got no lower half of his body, I saw him have his MMA debut, he can walk on his hands.

"I'm never stopping this, I'd wheel out into that octagon and I'd jump into open guard if I couldn't brace on the leg. That was my thoughts, like 'right, okay,' because I'd already done the whole camp compromised. The leg was damaged in the camp, I was in a medical boot. It was like I had a break already and I'd take it off before practice. My practice would consist of me in open guard."
