Conor McGregor has taken a swipe at rival Dustin Poirier's gruesome foot injury in his latest tweet-and-delete social media tirade.
The Irishman has been feuding with Poirier since the pair first fought in 2014, when he knocked him out within the first round. The pair's relationship appeared to cool and even become friendly when they rematched at the start of 2021, but soured to a worse point than ever in time for their trilogy after the American knocked out McGregor in their second bout.
Things have stayed bitter between the two, with their trilogy ending in controversy after McGregor broke his leg at the end of the first round, giving Poirier the win. The Irishman took to social media to claim that Poirier's gnarly new injury is "karma", joking that he should remove his foot.
“Karma the left paw an' all haha chop that thing off keep it for Halloween pal hahahaha,” McGregor wrote in a now-deleted tweet, just hours after telling Poirier to "heal up soon" and branding the former interim lightweight champion as "scruffy knickers". McGregor's initial tweet set off a back-and-forth between the pair, with the American mocking him for alleged steroid use.
"You done filming Roid House and ready to get slapped around again?" Poirier asked, with McGregor angrily responding: "Yeah I’m in Amsterdam jacked like Van Damme. You weren’t just hurt pal. You were scared hurt don’t forget it. I’m coming back to put you in a box. Full of it. I’m sending you off this earth. Permanent. Stay waiting for the Road House as well pal you and the missus will love it."

It's not the first time that McGregor has threatened Poirier's life, telling him after their trilogy bout at UFC 264 that their feud was "not over" before claiming that he and his wife Jolie were "dead". Footage from the Octagon shows McGregor say: "In your sleep you're getting it, in your sleep you're dead, you and your missus, it ain't over."
That was only a day after the pair had weighed in for the third time together, when McGregor had said: "In 16 hours' time, this man is going to learn that when you disrespect a person’s kindness and take it as a weakness, you must pay. Tomorrow night, I’m gonna make this man pay with his life, and I mean it. You’re dead in that Octagon tomorrow night."
Poirier has expressed his displeasure with McGregor taking their trash talking too far, but has frequently continued to engage with the Irishman in social media spats since. He went on to fight for the UFC lightweight title, losing to Charles Oliveira before returning to the win column against Michael Chandler last month, while McGregor has not fought since their third meeting.
