Conor McGregor suffered gruesome injury weeks before Khabib Nurmagomedov fight

Conor McGregor had to have his dislocated toes popped back into place just weeks before his infamous 2018 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

It had been rumoured for years that McGregor was dealing with a foot issue before that fight, but the full extent of the injury had never been disclosed.

Thanks to the release of the new 'McGregor Forever' Netflix documentary, fans can now see new footage that shows the excruciating pain McGregor was in after suffering the injury.

During a sparring session with Moldovan fighter Kosti Gnusariov at his SBG HQ, McGregor landed awkwardly on his foot after being taken down.

McGregor instantly proclaims that he fears his toes are broken and says as much to his coach John Kavanagh and his personal conditioning coach Julian Dalby.

Dalby tries to put the toes back into place as soon as possible to limit the damage but is unable to do so due to the amount of pain McGregor was in.

Dalby manages to reset the toes at the second time of asking.

The incident occurred just three weeks prior to his fight with the undefeated Khabib and no doubt contributed to a somewhat lacklustre performance on the evening.

McGregor went on to tap out in that fight the Khabib in the fourth round having been rocked by a huge right hand earlier in the fight.

Since that bout in 2018, McGregor beat Donald Cerrone before losing twice to Dusting Poirier, the second of which saw McGregor beaten by TKO after he suffered a horrific leg injury.

The Irishman hasn't fought since injuring his leg in that 2021 fight, but is due to return to the Octagon later this year against Michael Chandler.

However, no date, venue or weight-class has yet been announced.
